Shannon River Keepers

We exist to strengthen the relationships that allow rivers and communities to flourish together, and create long-term change for the Shannon’s health.

On a mission to help heal the River Shannon through practical action, education, a cultural revival, sacred connection, and advancing the Rights of the River Shannon.

Our Aims

01

Help heal the River Shannon, and renew a relationship rooted in reciprocity and care.

02

Map, connect, and support the diverse organisations, projects and communities already working throughout the Shannon catchment.

03

Build a visible, connected and resilient network of river guardians across the Shannon basin, and serve as a shared platform where knowledge, resources, and ideas can emerge.

04

Amplify the Rights of Nature movement, and secure recognition - and implementation - of the Rights of the River Shannon.

Shannon River Keepers is an interdisciplinary alliance bringing together ecological practitioners, artists, legal thinkers, educators, community organisers, scientists, cultural workers and local custodians to support the health and vitality of the River Shannon from source to sea.

Rather than creating another organisation working in isolation, our ambition is to become a central hub that connects, amplifies and supports the people and groups already caring for the Shannon. By weaving together existing initiatives across the catchment, we hope to build a stronger, more visible and resilient movement for the river's future.
